Arrests: police nab suspect with bait item, arrest another for burglary
Citrus Heights police announced the arrest of several suspects in postings on social media over the past week. On Wednesday, police said Charles Russo, 37, was arrested on charges of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine. The arrest was made after officers responded to an alarm call on the 6100 block of San Juan Avenue, early Wednesday morning. Police said the suspect had recently been discharged from parole. On Friday, police announced the arrest of 30-year-old Christopher Clavet for allegedly stealing property owned by the Citrus Heights Police Department, apparently a bait item. Police said the suspect was currently on two dockets of felony probation for theft. He was charged with grand theft and violation of probation. (See photo)
Iconic ‘pink house’ in Citrus Heights gets new owners, new paint
Less than a month after the home sold, the formerly bright-colored home known as the “pink house” at the prominent corner of Antelope Road and Rosswood Drive has been repainted. The home had drawn the interest from community members due to its unusual color and was featured in a Q&A article published on The Sentinel in July.
The home’s former owner, Lanis Lyons, told The Sentinel the home had received the pink coat of paint about five years ago when he hired a contractor to paint the home a “barn red color” while out of state, but he returned to find the home covered in bright pink. He later had the front wall painted gray to somewhat mask the color, but the home remained pink until new owners purchased the 940-square-foot home on July 31 for $289,500.

Vehicle crashes into home on Sylvan Road
CBS 13 reported that a two-car collision on Sept. 2 sent one vehicle crashing into a garage at a home on Sylvan Road. Images from the scene aired by the news station showed a white, older model Toyota parked sideways in front of a yard, with nearby damage visible to the side of a garage. According to CBS 13, police said a driver involved in the two-car collision had lost control of his vehicle and smashed into the garage. The station reported no one was injured, but also said the driver had complained of pain. (See CBS 13 report)
City officials, students gather for new program kick-off at Mesa Verde
Students, school board members, and City officials gathered for a formal kick-off event on Tuesday for a new “Public Safety Pathway” course offered at Mesa Verde High School, designed for students interested in a career in the field of criminal justice. The new program was developed as a partnership between the Citrus Heights Police Department’s new Youth and Family Services Unit and the San Juan Unified School District.
In a news update posted on the City website on Thursday, the police department said students enrolled in the course “will conduct research into several law enforcement related topics, including criminal law, civil law, ethics, leadership, court system operations, community relations, investigative reporting, effective communication and use of force among several others.” Students will also get hands-on training during an 18-week internship with Citrus Heights police and other neighboring agencies, the department said.
