Sentinel staff report–
If you didn’t know already, Citrus Heights tends to vote Republican. Finalized voting data from election results in the 2018 primary shows nearly every precinct in the city leaned red in the governor’s race, with the exception of just two precincts near Sunrise Mall.
Precincts in the northeastern portion of the city tended to vote more strongly for Republican John Cox, with almost a 2-1 lead, while his lead over Democrat Gavin Newsom tended to be weaker in the southwest portion of the city.
The only two precincts where Newsom beat Cox appear to be areas with a higher concentration of apartment complexes, including the Montage apartments off Fair Oaks Boulevard, as well as complexes along Birdcage Street, Greenback Lane, Sunrise Vista Drive, and Kingswood Drive.
A similar voting pattern was also observed in the 2016 Presidential election, where Donald Trump won every precinct in Citrus Heights — except for the two nearest Sunrise Mall.
As of July 3, 2018, the Sacramento County Elections Division reported there were 43,747 registered voters in the City of Citrus Heights. Of those, 16,331 registered Republican; 14,552 registered Democrat; and about 10,000 registered as “no party preference.” The remaining voters registered with a third party.
