That loose change rattling around in your pocket can really add up fast, and this Saturday it can also help survivors of the Carr Fire. On August 4, from 8-11 a.m., the Sunrise MarketPlace Business Improvement District, together with radio station 101.5 K-Hits, will team up to host a “drive-thru coin drop fundraiser” in the MarketPlace at Birdcage parking lot.

According to a news release from the Sunrise MarketPlace issued Wednesday, the drop-off donation area will be located in the parking lot between the Vitamin Shoppe and Men’s Warehouse on the 6100 block of Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights. Motorists will be able to drive up, roll down their window, drop their donation in the bucket and be on their way.

Cash donations, checks and gift cards will all be accepted, but clothing and other physical items will not be taken, as fundraiser organizers said such items have not been requested at this time.

Donations are slated to go to the Tri-Counties Bank 2018 Carr Fire Fund, to be distributed to people in need through the United Way of Northern California and other local nonprofit emergency relief agencies directly serving fire victims with immediate needs. According to the Tri-Counties Bank website, each relief organization has been vetted, with the funds being allocated “based on proportionate need and expected impact.”

The Sunrise MarketPlace, a business improvement district made up of more than 400 businesses in the Sunrise-Greenback corridor, often hosts various events and activities throughout the year, including a fundraiser last year to benefit survivors of the Napa Fire.

Julie DePrada, special events and projects coordinator for the MarketPlace, said in Wednesday’s news release that the prior fundraiser was “overwhelmingly supported” by resident and radio listeners. “We look forward to a similar result this year,” she said.
