One arrested at Citrus Height DUI Checkpoint
Citrus Heights police said one person was arrested for DUI during a checkpoint operation held on Sunrise Boulevard near Oak Avenue, Friday night. Police said a total of 924 vehicles were screened and four field sobriety tests were administered during the six-hour operation, which also resulted in two vehicles being impounded and 12 citations issued for a variety of traffic or vehicle violations. The checkpoint was funded by a grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Citrus Heights artist’s Prince mural gets a remix
The Citrus Heights artist who gained notoriety in April after her mural of Prince in her front yard went viral is at it again. KCRA reported last week that Christine Stein re-did her tribute after the former mural was damaged by weather. She also crafted a pair of sunglasses that can be added and removed from the mural. Neighbors concerned about numerous crashes at Citrus Heights intersection
In a news report on Monday, ABC10 reported that neighbors have counted at least 21 crashes at the intersection of Old Auburn Road and Fair Oaks Boulevard. Resident Robert Mamer was interviewed in the story and said he has had three cars crash through his fence after drivers failed to navigate the turn at the intersection. The area is known for light-hearted signs that are tacked up after the collisions, with one sign shown in the news report reading “no. 20 voted best wall hit.”
A city official told ABC10 that the intersection will be assessed as part of a grant-funded study for improving traffic flow and safety on Old Auburn Road. As previously reported on The Sentinel, the council voted to officially receive the $190,000 grant from CalTrans in January, with funds to be used for studying improvements on the roadway from Sylvan Road to Fair Oaks Boulevard.
