Free exhibits, workshops, health screenings, and other activities are on the agenda for the 11th annual Senior Health and Resource Fair in Citrus Heights. The event will be held at the Citrus Heights Community Center on Thursday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The health fair promises to feature over 60 exhibitors, with a series of workshops starting at 9:30 a.m., according to an event flier. Topics include “how to improve your balance,” an introduction to genealogies, and a presentation by police on how to avoid becoming a victim of the latest senior scams. Other workshops will be held on topics of foot care, arthritis, and exercise.

A “walk and roll” stroll from the Community Center to the Stock Ranch Nature Preserve will also kick off at 9:30 a.m., taking participants on a little-over-a-mile trek to the nearby nature preserve behind Costco. Mid-way through the event, snacks will be served during two 11:30 a.m. workshops: “Money Smart for Older Adults,” led by Dale Covey of El Dorado Savings Bank, and “Healthy living for your brain and body,” led by the Alzheimer’s Association.
Other opportunities available during the fair include screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar, along with hearing tests provided by Miracle Ear. A dietitian from the county and a pharmacist from Walgreen’s will also offer consultations, the event flier says.
Health Fair sponsors include the City of Citrus Heights, Republic Services, SMUD, and the Sylvan Old Auburn Road Neighborhood Association, which has coordinated the fair for the past decade in an effort to get a large number of resources for seniors together in one spot. Mayor Steve Miller will serve as the event’s honorary chair, and a special prize is promised for the oldest attendee.
