Citrus Heights police dog commemorated for service, assisting in arrests

The Citrus Heights Police Department announced the death of one of its former police dogs on Tuesday night, posting a photo of the K-9 on social media along with a statement from the city’s police chief.

“Bruno kept many of our officers safe during the years, aided in numerous arrests throughout the region, and provided outstanding service to our community,” wrote Chief Ron Lawrence on the department’s official social media pages.

Responses from community members flooded in on Facebook within several hours of the announcement, with comments offering condolences along with several hundred “sad face” reactions and shares on the post.

“Thank you for your service [Bruno]… may you cross the rainbow bridge in peace knowing you did you job! RIP to his family and officers with LEO he assisted. Rest in peace good pup,” wrote one commenter. Another said “we are forever grateful for your service.”
