Sentinel staff report–
Following a successful first-time event last year, a local women’s club is planning another all-you-can-eat fundraiser at the Citrus Heights Community Center on April 27 this year. The 2018 “Taste of Citrus Heights” event is set to feature unlimited food and beverage sampling from more than two dozen local restaurants and food vendors, dancing, and three hours of live music from The Corduroy’s, a Sacramento-based country band.

Kristy Hernandez, whose GFWC Citrus Heights Women’s Club is putting on the event, said 26 food providers are confirmed to be participating so far this year, with additional vendors still being sought. She said confirmed restaurants include Dos Coyotes, Lil’ Blondie’s Pizzeria, Texas Roadhouse, Benihana, Buffalo Wild Wings, Elephant Bar, Antojitos Locos, Crepes and Burgers, and Kabab N Tikka.

The event will be held at the community center from 6-9:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $40 and will also be sold for $45 at the door, if tickets remain.

More than 300 attendees came to the first “Taste of Citrus Heights” event last year, which featured DJ Angelique Bianca, a silent auction and raffle, and stand-up comedy. Organizer’s reported the event helped raise enough funds to pay for an expert training session for Citrus Heights Police Department officers and their spouses, designed to teach strategies for coping with post-traumatic stress that can affect officers’ mental health and home life.

Hernandez said funds raised during this year’s event will again go to the police department, helping pay for new uniforms for the department’s Honor Guard.

Additional details and online ticket purchase is available at www.tasteofcitrusheights.com.

The local women’s club was founded in 1976 as a chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The group is known for nonprofit community service work and helps put on local events like the annual Chili Cook-Off, which raises funds for charity work.
