A new fast-casual pizza restaurant is now open at the newly remodeled Alta Sunrise retail center in Citrus Heights, serving up custom 11-inch pizzas and offering a wide selection of beer and ciders on 20 taps.
Located at at 5450 Sunrise Blvd., a block away from the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, the new PizzaRev features a “craft your own” pizza assembly process that allows diners to select from over 30 different toppings to customize their personal-size 11-inch pizzas, which are made in front of them and then baked in a 900-degree stone-bed oven in “under three minutes.”
Prices for a typical pizza run $8.99, with “double dough” or gluten-free options available for $1.50 more. Toppings range from various cheeses and meats, along with sun dried tomatoes, pineapple, basil, and artichoke hearts. A pesto sauce is also one of several finishing sauces offered to top off the meal.
Another feature of the restaurant is its self-pour beer and cider on tap, which allows diners to pour and pay by the ounce with a special wristband used to activate each tap. Prices per ounce range from about 33 cents to 55 cents, depending on the variety — making a typical 16-ounce selection run about $6, or half that price if purchased with a pizza during the restaurant’s daily happy hour from 3-6 p.m.
27-year-old franchise owner Harvind Uppal, who has already opened two other PizzaRev restaurants in the Sacramento area, held a grand opening on April 12, inviting diners to “pay what they want” for a pizza fundraiser. Proceeds from the all-day event went to support A Community for Peace, a Citrus Heights-based crisis center that offers services to victims of domestic violence.
Uppal told The Sentinel lines were “out the door” for the fundraiser and brought in over $4,000, with diners choosing to pay anywhere from a few dollars up to about $15. The restaurant also offered a free pizza with the purchase of any 16-ounce beer on Saturday as part of a grand opening promotion.
PizzaRev’s opening, and wide selection of beer, was noted by several city council members in comments made during Thursday’s council meeting.
“If you really like beer, this is the place to go,” said Councilman Bret Daniels with a chuckle, noting he had attended a VIP grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new PizzaRev, along with Councilman Albert Fox. Beers include Track 7, New Helvetia and Oak Park, along with several gluten-free ciders and popular mainstream beers like Coors and Sam Adams.
The Southern California-based PizzaRev company began in 2012 and now has nearly 50 locations around the country, seeking to distinguish itself amid an already crowded pizza market by offering a customized and quick dining experience, which include vegan and gluten-free options.
The new Citrus Heights location is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
