Sentinel staff report–
After two weeks of delayed trash and recycling pickup in Citrus Heights, regular collection days will return for residents beginning on Monday, Jan. 8th.
Republic Services, which handles waste collection for the City of Citrus Heights, announced the one-day delay in light of collection being cancelled on both Christmas and New Year’s Day. The delay meant residents who normally had collection on Tuesday had their pickup on Wednesday, and those with a regular collection day of Wednesday had their waste picked up Thursday, and so on.
The change sparked some questions from residents, who were used to garbage and recycling being picked up on standard days throughout the year.
“I’m wondering why they didn’t contact their customers directly with this information,” one reader said in a post on The Sentinel’s Facebook page. Another said, “I wish [Republic Services’] calendar reflected the holiday schedule changes. It isn’t like the dates of the holidays are a big surprise, right?”
Through Friday, Jan. 12, Republic Services will dispose of live trees for free, excluding flocked or decorated trees, if placed at the curbside next to trash collection bins. Live trees can also be cut into pieces and placed in green bins anytime.
