Sentinel staff report–
Highlighting local flavors, sounds, and history, several Citrus Heights business and community groups were featured on Fox 40’s latest “In Your Neighborhood” segment on Friday morning, with videos subsequently published on the TV station’s website.

A three-minute segment on Beer Dogs, located at Sylvan Corners, showed off a variety of the eatery’s 10-inch gourmet hot dogs, as well as local craft brews on tap. Beer Dogs opened last September at 7032 Sylvan Rd. and has since earned a solid 4-star rating in online reviews. Although forgoing a beer for the morning segment, Fox 40’s Gary Gelfand took viewers through Beer Dog’s local craft brews on tap, which include Auburn Ale House, Loomis Basin, and the Lincoln-based Knee Deep Brewing Company.

A Chicago native, Gelfand focused attention on the Chicago Dog, which is topped with raw onions, specialty relish, pickle spears, tomato slices, and celery salt. Piled-high “loaded” tater tots were also featured on the segment, along with fried avocado — a new appetizer Beer Dogs is trying out.

Two videos were also published highlighting the Citrus Heights Community Marching band, whose members were set up for Fox 40’s camera in Rusch Park. Band Director Cody Tickner introduced the band, which has volunteers ranging in age from 6 to 87. Tickner said the band began in 2005 as a temporary feature for the city’s Red, White and Blue Parade and now performs at area events about 20 times each year.

“We’re called the ambassadors of Citrus Heights,” Tickner says in the short interview. “We like to show off what Citrus Heights has to offer.”

The Citrus Heights Historical Society was also featured on Friday with an interview and tour inside the historic Rusch Home, but the video was not published online as of Saturday evening. Additional information about the Society can be found on their Facebook page.

“In Your Neighborhood” segments have also featured other cities in the region, like Placerville and Fairfield. Last September, the station aired another neighborhood segment on Citrus Heights, featuring Mesa Verde High School, Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes, and Sunrise Rollerland.
