Sentinel staff report–
Drivers will likely want to avoid the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Sayonara Drive between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. from August 20 through 22.

In a news release issued Thursday, the City of Citrus Heights’ General Services Department said traffic signals at the intersection will be flashing red during night time working hours, and access to-and-from Sayonara Drive will be restricted.

The department said the closure is due to the installation of a new manhole and associated drain pipe at the intersection, as part of a $212,000 drainage improvement project in the area.

During the night work hours, residents are advised to access Sayonara Drive via Greenback Lane to Mariposa Avenue to San Simeon Drive, which connects with Sayonara Drive.

Although night work is expected to conclude on Aug. 22, the larger drainage project is scheduled to continue through Sept. 15, with weekday closures of one southbound lane of Sunrise Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a short section of roadway between Sayonara Drive and Arcade Creek.

As previously reported on The Sentinel, the drainage project was approved by the city council in June and awarded to Martin General Engineering as the lowest bidder, according to a June 8 staff report. The project includes installation of 435 linear feet of new storm drain pipe, along with the new manhole at the intersection.

An existing storm drain at the location “is undersized and does not meet current standards,” according to the staff report.
