A brand new “summer jam” event at the Rusch Park Skate Park on July 29 is promising hours of activities for youth and families, with a scooter competition, two-lane slip-and-slide, live local bands, and pizza-by-the-slice all on schedule for the day.

The event will kick off with a scooter competition from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by an inflatable slip-and-slide activity beginning at 11 a.m., according to a promotional flier. Special performances by the Sacramento-based reggae band Arden Park Roots and Pacific Skyway will wind up the day from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The first 100 attendees age 18 and under will also get a free wristband for the Rusch Pool, and pizza will be sold on-site by Taste of Tuscany.

The event is hosted by the Sunrise Recreation and Park District, with support from the Citrus Heights Police Activities League and Taste of Tuscany — and organizers hope to make it into an annual event.

“We’ve had the skate park scooter competition every year, but we wanted to bring more families into the event and bring some local bands,” said Citrus Heights PAL President Jason Russo. “We’re looking forward to interacting with the community and having another venue to have positive interaction with the youth and police officers in Citrus Heights.”

The event will focus in the skate park area of Rusch Park, with access at 7413 Antelope Rd. Activities will also spill out into the grassy areas.
