Citrus Heights police said two burglary suspects were apprehended Tuesday after a witness notified them that the pair was cutting locks at a storage facility on Greenback Lane shortly before dawn.

In the statement sent to media on Thursday, police took the opportunity to publicly thank the witness, who was not named, and also encouraged others to report suspicious activity. The department called community members the “eyes and ears” for police and said fighting crime requires teamwork between police and residents.

“The actions of the witness and the teamwork demonstrated by our police officers made quick work of catching these individuals,” Officer Ken Spencer said in the written statement. “CHPD encourages our community members to stay observant and report suspicious activity.”

Police also warned that thefts at storage facilities can go unreported for long periods of time, since rented units are often not regularly visited by the renter. The department advised renters to check on their storage units “more frequently.”

Tuesday’s incident occurred at an undisclosed storage unit on the 7500 block of Greenback Lane. An investigation of the incident is still ongoing and police are seeking to identify additional victims.

Victims of burglary or theft are encouraged to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department to file a report.
