Citrus Heights cafe offering lifetime eating pass for $1,000
Ben’s Huli Huli Chicken and Hawaiian Cafe on Auburn Boulevard is offering loyal customers a “Food for Life” eating pass — good for one $11 meal six-days-a-week for life, according to a report on KCRA published Saturday. Owner Kit Syn told the TV station he has already sold nine of the $1,000 passes and has a goal of reaching 15. He said the extra cash has helped him invest in his business and get through a rainy winter, which was rough for his Hawaiian barbecue business.
The cafe moved to Citrus Heights from Folsom at the end of 2016 and has earned 4.5-out-of-5 stars from reviewers on Yelp. The restaurant is located at 7967 Auburn Blvd., in the Grand Oaks Shopping Center. (See KCRA video)

Police chief making the rounds to neighborhood associations
Police Chief Ron Lawrence has been making the rounds to the city’s neighborhood association meetings to introduce himself to residents after being selected to head up the Citrus Heights Police Department last year. He is scheduled to speak at the following meetings this month:
June 13, 6:30 p.m. — Area 3 Neighborhood Association, meets in community room at city hall. (See agenda)
June 20, 7:00 p.m. — Area 1 Neighborhood Association, meets in the community club house at 7600 Daly Ave. (See agenda)
Chief Lawrence will also speak at the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon at the Community Center on June 13 and the CHPD Honors and Awards Ceremony on June 29.
Officer awarded for making 66 DUI arrests in 2016
CHPD Officer Dave Moranz was awarded for “exceptional efforts in combating DUI” during a Mothers Against Drunk Driving regional law enforcement luncheon held in Woodland on June 3. The award was announced on CHPD’s social media, with the department stating Moranz had arrested 66 individuals for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol last year. In announcing the award, the department called DUI a “100% preventable crime” and encouraged the public to always designate a driver and choose not to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Short council meeting wraps up business in under 30 minutes
“29 minutes. We’re done,” said Mayor Jeff Slowey, looking at the clock as he ended a brief council meeting held on June 8 at city hall. The only two consent items on the agenda were approved unanimously and only one resident spoke during public comment to advise the council of a stop sign in the city that appeared to have been hit and was leaning over. Noticeably absent was newly appointed councilman Albert Fox, who Mayor Slowey said was excused due to a vacation planned prior to his appointment to the council last month. At-risk Citrus Heights man with schizophrenia goes missing
A 53-year-old man with schizophrenia was reported missing last week after being last seen in the area of Highland and Sunrise around 1 a.m. on June 7, Citrus Heights police said in a notification posted on social media last week. The missing man, Michael Doyle, takes medication and is described as 5-feet-10-inches, 160-pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Police also described him as an at-risk dependent adult with “the mental capacity of a 10-year-old,” who is likely carrying a light-colored blanket. Anyone who has seen Doyle is asked to contact police dispatch at (916) 727-5500. (See photo)
