Residents at an apartment complex near Auburn Boulevard and Twin Oaks Avenue were awakened by an early morning attic fire that damaged eight units Tuesday morning.
Battallion Chief Chris Reed told The Sentinel eight fire trucks responded to the Sierra Ridge Apartment complex on Auburn Oaks Court Tuesday morning, after a fire was reported around 6:20 a.m. He said firefighters found an attic fire above four units, requiring a hole to be cut in the roof to gain access.
“Luckily, the unit was vacant at the time,” said Reed, noting that no injuries were reported. He said the cause was later determined to be electrical in origin.
The battallion chief said Red Cross would be assisting residents in eight units who were displaced to allow for repairs.
Asked for related safety tips, Reed said smoke alarms are key for alerting residents to early morning fires. He also recommended renters consider obtaining renters insurance and said some apartment managers include renters insurance as a standard protection for renters.
