The Citrus Heights Veterans Community Center has planned an upcoming Armed Forces Day fundraiser dinner on May 20, to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the center’s location on Sylvan Road.

According to a news release, the dinner will feature meals cooked by four local culinary experts – including a veteran chef from American River College’s culinary program. Guests are promised to enjoy both meat and vegetarian spaghetti options, along with wine tasting offered by Sacramento wine broker Bill Tobey.

The evening is also scheduled to feature entertainment from Doug Ellington, a local veteran and musician, who will provide live music with a mixture of rock, blues, folk and country.

The event is open to the general public, with tickets being sold through May 10 for $15. Tickets can be purchased at the veterans center, or reserved by calling (916) 726-7876. They can also be delivered locally by calling (916) 257-2829.

Organizers said funds will be used to help build ADA-compliant bathrooms in the center’s 155-year-old building.

The veterans center, located in the old 1862 Sylvan School house at 6921 Sylvan Rd., is designed to provide a place for veterans to congregate, access services, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy various events and activities.
