Just in time for warm weather, a new frozen yogurt shop has opened its doors at the busy Sylvan Corners intersection in Citrus Heights.
Frozen yogurt fans will find the new Yellow Yo self-serve eatery with a bright and colorful look on the inside — along with four yogurt machines, each with two different flavors and an option to mix the two. Yogurt selections are all nonfat, with choices like Tahitian vanilla, “dreamy dark chocolate,” cheesecake, and the most popular pick so far, Cherry Amaretto.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. across from the new Sylvan Middle School on Auburn Boulevard, the ample-sized location is ideally situated to reach an audience of middle-schoolers who file across Auburn Boulevard when school gets out. A quick search online for yogurt shops in Citrus Heights also pulls up only one Yelp listing for another frozen yogurt shop in town, a factor that Yellow Yo Supervisor Cassandra Williams said was key in selecting the location at 7086 Auburn Blvd.
Priced at 53-cents-per-ounce, a typical cup of frozen yogurt weighs in at $3 to $7, depending on the amount of toppings and yogurt. Topping choices include 27 different dry toppings and at least another dozen fruit options and even boba balls, typically found in Asian bubble tea.
“As long as they don’t get crazy (with toppings), they don’t have to pay crazy,” staff member Seth Murphy told The Sentinel with a smile on Tuesday.
Asked about future plans, Murphy said the location plans to offer smoothies beginning later this week. His supervisor also indicated that, while not a yogurt chain, Yellow Yo may have plans to expand depending on how business goes at the new location.
