An upcoming all-you-can-eat fundraiser at the Citrus Heights Community Center on April 28 is promising to treat attendees with catered food and beverage tasting from several dozen local restaurants, incorporated with an evening of comedy, dance, and support for local police.
GFWC Citrus Heights Women’s Club President Kristy Hernandez, whose group is putting on the “Taste of Citrus Heights” event, said the evening will feature DJ Angelique Bianca, a silent auction and raffle, stand-up comedy, two hours of all-you-can-eat tasting, and a presentation by the Citrus Heights Police Department.
She said funds raised from the event will primarily go to host a one-day expert training for CHPD officers and their spouses, designed to teach strategies for coping with post-traumatic stress that can affect officers’ mental health and home life. Hernandez said a police commander at CHPD lost a former partner on the Davis police force to suicide, which has been a driving force in getting the training hosted.
“Our Citrus Heights Police Department does so much for the community,” Hernandez told The Sentinel on Thursday. “We wanted to make sure that our cops have the best mental health programs available for them.”
Tickets for the event are $35 in advance, or $40 at the door. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with the first 300 attendees promised a “swag bag” full of coupons and local freebies. Attendees must be at least 21 years old.
As of April 13, at least 30 restaurants and food providers will be at the event, according to Hernandez. Confirmed businesses include Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwichers, Taste of Tuscany, Buffalo Wild Wings, PaZa Estate Winery, Togo’s, 10th Inning Bar, and Crepes & Burgers.

The local women’s club was founded in 1976 as a chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The group is known for nonprofit community service work and helps put on local events like the annual Chili Cook-Off, which raises funds for charity work.
