A 39-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a fatal collision with another vehicle on Greenback Lane at Fountain Square Drive, police said in a news release Sunday night.

Citrus Heights police said the department’s traffic unit is investigating the incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. on April 2 and resulted in nearby roadways being closed for several hours.

In a written statement to media, Officer Anthony Boehle said the motorcycle involved was traveling westbound on Greenback Lane when it collided with a vehicle making a left turn from Greenback onto Fountain Square Drive. The motorcyclist, later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Eduard Maiiers of Sacramento, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Metro Fire personnel.

Police said responding officers found Maiiers unresponsive in the roadway, after he was “ejected from the motorcycle.” Lifesaving efforts were provided by officers until Metro Fire arrived on scene.

The driver of the vehicle involved was reportedly cooperative with the investigation, but police said the cause of collision is still under investigation.

Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.

The department said drivers are reminded “to be attentive to the roadway and other motorists, especially motorcycles, since warmer weather will mean more motorcycling enthusiasts on the road.”
