Mr. Pickles holds grand re-opening at Sylvan Corners
Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop in Citrus Heights held a grand re-opening event on Saturday, celebrating its newly remodeled interior and new management. Manager Ryan Powell said the location had been closed for the past month, but re-opened with new staff and new equipment on April 1. Sandwiches were also offered at $5 throughout the day. The California-based sandwich franchise has locations primarily in northern California and is known for its sandwiches and costumed employees dressed as pickles on street corners.
Large tree falls onto Citrus Heights home
A large oak tree crashed onto a home on Saint Philomena Way in Citrus Heights, near Fair Oaks Boulevard, CBS 13 reported on Tuesday. “It sounded like an earthquake to me… so I get up from the kitchen table, I ran in the back room and I look in my bedroom and the limb’s all the way through my bedroom,” a resident of the home told TV crews. No one was injured in the incident, but images from the scene indicate the tree caused significant damage to the roof and portions of the home. (See CBS 13 story)
CHPD places 8th out of 29 divisions in 120-mile foot race
Officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department placed 8th out of 29 divisions during a “Baker to Vegas” 120-mile law enforcement foot race through the Nevada and California deserts last weekend. Sgt. Jason Baldwin said the local team, who partnered with Folsom PD, shortened their run time by one hour from the prior year’s race. Seven Citrus Heights officers participated in the race, which involved desert heat and ice cold weather with snow at a summit along the race path, according to Det. Ryan Lemons, who was one of the participating officers.
Sgt. Baldwin said the race is designed to “test the intestinal fortitude of everyone who competes.” He said the department was proud of the performance of local officers during the race and “hopes to drop even more time next year.”
Early morning fire near Lichen K-8 displaces 4 residents, injures 2
An early morning fire near Lichen K-8 school in Citrus Heights displaced four residents Wednesday, Metro Fire reported in a March 29 tweet. Officials said two of the residents suffered minor injuries and listed the cause as “under investigation.” Photos posted along with the tweet show significant damage to part of the structure, while a photo of the garage appears undamaged.
KCRA 3 reported the fire began in a back bedroom just after 3 a.m. at a home on Mistletoe Lane. Battalion Chief Tony Peck told the TV station the family was “very lucky to make it out,” given the time of the fire and the house being filled with smoke. The station also said the family’s dog was killed in the fire. (See KCRA report)
