Citrus Heights police said a 37-year-old man was struck by a sedan while attempting to cross Auburn Boulevard near Rollingwood Boulevard on Tuesday evening, causing traffic in both directions to be closed down for several hours while officers investigated the scene.
In a news release issued late Tuesday night, Police Lt. David Gutierrez said officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:25 p.m. and found a man lying in the roadway “with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.” The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were reported as non-life threatening, according to police.
Auburn Boulevard remained closed until shortly before 11 p.m., with officers diverting traffic through the Grand Oaks Shopping Center parking lot.
The lieutenant said a preliminary investigation found the pedestrian was walking east across Auburn Boulevard when he was struck in the northbound lanes of traffic outside of a marked crosswalk. Police said the Subaru sedan involved was “lawfully traveling northbound” when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The driver involved was cooperative with the investigation and remained at the scene.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation by police. Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727‐5500.
