New Mexican restaurant now open on Greenback
Taqueria Tres Hermanos is now open on Greenback Lane near Sunrise Boulevard, occupying the former Linda’s Pizzeria building which closed in August, 2015. The new restaurant features a salsa bar and an extensive menu of burritos, tacos, and other Mexican food. A license to sell beer and wine on-site is also pending, according to a notice on the front window and online records from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The restaurant’s first day of business was Jan. 14. It is located at 7815 Greenback Ln., between a Sleep Train store and a new Vietnamese restaurant that opened last June.
Antelope intersection goes dark; city says only 50% of stoplights notify staff if not working
“Dark intersections? Tweet us and we will fix. We may not know.” That’s a message the City of Citrus Heights posted on its Twitter account on Thursday, following an intersection outage on Antelope Road. In a series of Jan. 19 tweets, the city said only half the stoplights in Citrus Heights can “electronically ‘tell’ us they are out.” The tweets came several hours after a driver tweeted that the intersection of Antelope Road and Amsterdam Avenue was “completely dark” and not flashing red, as of 6 a.m. on Thursday. By 8:45 a.m., the city tweeted that the intersection was working again, but lights again went back to flashing red for several hours before being finally fixed. As previously reported on The Sentinel, the signalized intersection at Amsterdam Avenue was installed in 2015 at an estimated cost of $550,000.
City seeks photo submissions of Citrus Heights from past 20 years
50 professional or amateur photographers are being sought by the Citrus Heights History and Arts Commission to contribute to a new photo book project called, “Citrus Heights: The First 20 Years.” According to the city website, the book “will portray photos from the past two decades that embody and capture the essence that is the Citrus Heights community.”
All photos, including those taken on smartphones, are eligible if they were taken in Citrus Heights between the dates of Jan. 1, 1997 and Feb. 14, 2017. The deadline for photo submissions is Feb. 15, 2017, and entries must include a completed registration form and an entry fee of $25, or $10 for students. According to the registration form, a total of 10 photos can be submitted by each photographer, with at least one photo guaranteed to appear in the book. (See registration form)
ABC 10: Black Bear Diner to open next month in Citrus Heights
After nearly a year of delays, Black Bear Diner is expected to open by mid-February in the new shopping center at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, according to an ABC 10 report. A Craigslist job posting last week indicates the restaurant began hiring employees and managers outside the location at 7935 Madison Ave., with job interviews planned to continue through Feb. 3. Applicants are asked to bring a resume, food handlers card, and two forms of identification. (See job posting and ABC 10 report)
