Citrus Heights couple welcomes new year with first baby in region
At 12:26 a.m. on Jan. 1, a Citrus Heights couple became the first to welcome a newborn in the Sacramento region, according to a report in the Sacramento Bee. Newborn Elizabeth Vyskribova, weighing in at 6-pounds-10-ounces, was delivered at Kaiser in Roseville a month before her Feb. 2 due date.
The couple, Anzhela Vyskribova and her husband Kirill, reportedly arrived at the hospital on New Years Eve around 6:30 p.m., after cancelling party plans with family when it seemed their daughter would be arriving sooner than expected. Each member of the family shares a birthday with a holiday, with Anzhela born on the Fourth of July, Kirill on Valentine’s Day, and now their daughter on New Year’s Day. (See story)
Dance group in Citrus Heights featured on Good Day Sacramento
An area cued ballroom dance club was featured on Good Day Sacramento on Jan. 2, showing off dance moves on live television in Citrus Heights. The segment featured a small group of couples with the Sacramento Cued Ballroom Dance Club following “cuer” Dan Drumheller as he announced each step over a microphone. Cued ballroom dance is choreographed in advance and has a cuer announce each step as music proceeds. Citrus Heights is also home to the Overalls Square Dance Club, which has been meeting in the auxiliary room at Holy Family Catholic Church on Old Auburn Road. (See TV clip)
Planning commission hearings set for development projects
Three public hearings will be held at the Jan. 11 planning commission meeting, beginning at 7 p.m. at city hall. On schedule are requests to extend a development permit for a new assisted care facility project at 8220 Sunrise Blvd., a drive-thru and design review permit request for a Human Bean coffee kiosk at Sunrise Boulevard and Old Auburn Road, and a minor request to subdivide a private 1.3-acre parcel at 8240 Olivine Dr. into two lots. Sunrise Little League prepares for season, seeks sponsors
The Sunrise Little League is currently seeking sponsors and will be holding upcoming try-outs and registration at C-Bar-C Park. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the league said it had re-done two infields and is now hoping to purchase three new scoreboards. For $6,000, sponsors are offered to have their company name displayed on the scoreboard for the life of the board. For $175, the league is offering a banner that will be displayed on a field, along with placement on a sponsor banner and an ad in the team’s yearbook. Registration is open to those in the southeastern portion of Citrus Heights and a small portion of Orangevale. Try-outs and walk-up registration will be held on Jan. 14 at C-Bar-C Park on Oak Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (See website and boundary map)
Another package thief caught on camera in Citrus Heights
A resident with high-quality video footage of a man appearing to steal packages from her doorstep in Citrus Heights posted the footage to social media on Jan. 4 in hopes of identifying the suspect. Fearing retaliation, the resident later removed the video from her Facebook page, but released images to media and police. As of Jan. 7, Citrus Heights police have not announced an arrest in the case, but a CBS 13 report on Wednesday said the department had been receiving tips about the suspect’s identity.

As previously reported on The Sentinel, package thefts have continued to be reported in the area after Christmas. Another package theft was recorded on video and reported stolen by a resident on Dec. 29.
