At least half a dozen police SUVs responded to the scene of a collision on Sylvan Road which sent one driver to the hospital with a possible broken bone on Saturday, police said.
Sgt. Eric Dias said police received a call just after 11 a.m. on Saturday, reporting a two-car collision on Sylvan Road at Community Drive across from the Veteran’s Center. He said both drivers were transported to the hospital, with one “complaint of pain, and the second with a possible broken bone.”
“Preliminarily, it looks like one of the vehicles entered Sylvan from a side street without clearing the lane and collided with the second vehicle,” Dias said in an email to The Sentinel. He confirmed one vehicle was going northbound on Sylvan Road and the other vehicle was traveling westbound on Community Drive.
Both sedans involved sustained mostly front-end damage and the collision appeared to have spun both vehicles around on the wet roads. As of 11:30 a.m., one vehicle was observed facing the wrong way of traffic in a northbound lane on Sylvan Road and the other vehicle was facing the wrong way of traffic in a southbound lane.
The collision resulted in police reducing traffic down to one lane in each direction of Sylvan Road until approximately 12 p.m.
Dias said drivers are advised to “slow down and remain extra vigilant of traffic on the roadway” during wet weather conditions.
The Sentinel has reported on two other major collisions along a half-mile stretch of Sylvan Road over the past 15 months, one of which resulted in a fatality.
A head-on collision on Sylvan Road at Circuit Drive sent five people to the hospital last April. In October 2015, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV about a block away from Saturday’s collision scene.
