The Citrus Heights Police Department teamed up with the Sacramento Kings and former NBA player Bobby Jackson to drop off a new basketball hoop at the Sayonara Center on Wednesday, arriving with lights flashing and more than a dozen uniformed police officers.
Police Lt. Jason Russo said the hoop was provided through the Cop Basketball Foundation, an organization whose mission is summed up in its motto and hashtag, “Hoops not Crime.”
The Sayonara Center first opened in 2006 on Sayonara Drive in Citrus Heights, serving kids with after-school programs, homework help, and meals. In August of 2012, the Center re-opened in a new 2,700-square-foot facility, with the help of a federal grant.
