Local news briefs this week include a successful “Coffee with a Cop” event at Starbucks, plans for a new “3-minute” pizza restaurant in town, and an update on a power outage that caused 1,000 Citrus Heights customers to lose power.
POLICE: ‘Coffee with a cop’ event a success; drew 50+ people
A heavy police presence at a local Starbucks on Tuesday morning wasn’t due to any criminal activity, police said. About 50 interested community members dropped in between 8 to 10 a.m. for a casual chat with officers during the Citrus Heights Police Department’s “Coffee with a Cop” event at the Starbucks near Sylvan Corners, according to Sgt. Jason Baldwin.
The May 10 event was the second of three such community meetings the department has planned for 2016, with the events designed as a way of building ties with law enforcement and the public. Police said the next event will be held later this year, likely in the evening.
SMUD: Underground line issue knocked power out for 1,000 in Citrus Heights
About a thousand Citrus Heights residents lost power Sunday evening due to a “problem with an underground line in the area,” according to SMUD spokesman Jonathon Tudor. About 1,000 customers were affected in the 95610 zip code of Citrus Heights during the May 8 power outage, with SMUD’s online outage map indicating at least 150 calls about the outage had been received from customers. The outage began just after 7 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes.
New PizzaRev restaurant confirms plans to open in Citrus Heights
A new “craft your own” pizza restaurant is planning to open a location in Citrus Heights in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to PizzaRev spokeswoman Monica Rutkowski. The Southern California-based pizza company seeks to distinguish itself with its Subway-style pizza assembly process, where diners travel along an open counter and select toppings from a wide array of choices placed in front of them. The end result is a fully customized personal-sized pizza the company promises to be “flame-fired in just three minutes.”
The Citrus Heights location will be about a block away from the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, next to Nation’s Giant Hamburgers and the future site of Dos Coyote’s restaurant.
