A new Southern California-based pizza franchise is planning to open two Sacramento-area locations later this year, including one on Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights.
Entering an already crowded pizza market in 2012, the relatively new PizzaRev restaurant chain has sought to distinguish itself with a “craft your own” pizza assembly process, with diners traveling along an open counter and selecting toppings from a wide array of choices in front of them. The final result is a fully customized personal-sized pizza that the company promises to be “flame-fired in just three minutes.”
In an email to the Sentinel this week, PizzaRev spokeswoman Monica Rutkowski confirmed the company has tentatively scheduled two Sacramento-area locations for opening in the fourth quarter of 2016, but was not able to provide more specific opening dates.
One PizzaRev will be located on Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento, while the Citrus Heights location will be about a block away from the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, next to Nation’s Giant Hamburgers and the future site of a new Dos Coyote’s restaurant.

Other distinctive aspects of PizzaRev’s fast-casual pizza franchise include a 900-degree, stone-bed oven, used for baking a thin-crust pizza in just three minutes. Dough options also include gluten-free crust, with a recently added “double dough” crust for those preferring a thicker pizza.
According to a company fact sheet provided by Rutkowski, prices are typically $8.25 for an 11-inch personal pizza, with diners able to add whatever topping mix they choose at no extra charge.
The first PizzaRev opened in April of 2012 in Los Angeles, where it has earned an average 4-out-of-5 star rating from close to 200 Yelp reviewers online. The company says it also currently has plans underway to add 150 franchise locations in 16 states, adding to the current total of 34 locations.
