The Aeropostale clothing store in Citrus Heights is among 113 stores across the country slated to close within the next six months, as the company undergoes Chapter 11 bankruptcy and significant transformation.
On May 4, the company posted a complete list of locations slated for closure, with the Citrus Heights store listed along with four other Aeropostale stores in California. In a news release on Wednesday, the company said store closing sales will begin this weekend, starting May 7.
The teen-focused clothing company reportedly has struggled to keep up with newer rivals like H&M and Forever 21, according to USA Today. The company also reported an 18 percent decline in sales last year.
In Aeropostale’s May 4 press statement, the company said it “intends to emerge from the Chapter 11 process within the next six months as a standalone enterprise with a smaller store base, increased operating efficiencies and reduced SG&A (non-production) expenses.”
The company owns over 700 stores in the United States, as well as 41 in Canada. While all of Aeropostale’s Canadian stores will close, the majority of U.S. Aeropostale stores will remain open, according to the company.
