A new southwest fast-casual restaurant is slated to open by early fall in the new shopping plaza being built at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue in Citrus Heights.

Similar to Chipotle, Moe’s Southwest Grill restaurants feature Subway-style meal creation, with orders custom made at a counter in front of the patron. Meal selections range from quesadilla’s to tacos and salads, with grass-fed steak and organic tofu options advertised on the menu. Free chips and salsa come with every order as well.

Moe’s spokeswoman Daley Michael said the new Citrus Heights restaurant is part of an 18-unit deal signed by a franchise group, HKMII, that is developing restaurants in Sacramento and Santa Cruz. The group also recently opened a new Moe’s at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Cirby Way in January of this year.

Although a map on the company’s website shows more than 600 Moe’s nationwide, the Georgia-based restaurant chain only recently entered California. The first franchise in the state opened in Auburn, with Roseville becoming the second Moe’s in California.

The Citrus Heights Moe’s is scheduled to open “late summer, or early fall” of this year, according to the company’s spokeswoman. She said at least 25 staff and two managers will be hired.

Other stores and restaurants announced to be opening at the new Capital Nursery Plaza include Smart & Final, Black Bear Diner, McDonald’s and Jimmy John’s Sandwiches. Several other spots listed as available at the plaza have yet to be announced.
