A local band is celebrating their 19th anniversary this month with a free public concert at San Juan High School in Citrus Heights.
The Capitol Pops Concert Band’s anniversary concert will be held on April 16 at 7 p.m. in the San Juan auditorium, located at 7551 Greenback Ln.
A news release from the group said the concert will run about 2 hours long, with a 20-minute intermission. The event is also scheduled to include a student scholarship raffle with a rosebush prize from Eisley Nursery.
Capitol Pops has been a self-supporting volunteer band since 1997, made up of 65 members ranging from ages 12 to 94, according to the band’s website. Led by Director Kurt Pearsall, the nonprofit group says they encourage student participation and often perform at community events in the Sacramento region, including several in Citrus Heights each year.

According to the band’s online calendar, Capitol Pops will perform at the upcoming Red, White & Blue Parade in June, an October “Boos and Brews” event at the Citrus Heights Community Center, and a Holiday Concert at Rusch Park in December.
