Through Jan. 15, 2016, Citrus Heights residents can take advantage of free curbside pickup of live Christmas trees with Republic Services’ holiday “treecycling” program.

According to a “Holiday Recycling Guide” flier for Citrus Heights, trees placed at the curb during regular green waste pick-up days will be recycled at no charge, but flocked or decorated trees will not be accepted. Those with a regular pick-up day landing on New Year’s Day will have services moved to Saturday, Jan. 2.

Broken or unwanted Christmas light strands can also be dropped off for free recycling at the temporary Citrus Heights City Hall lobby, located at 7927 Auburn Blvd. Drop-off hours are weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., through Jan. 29.

As another option , the Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop 215 is hosting their annual Christmas tree recycling fundraiser at Sunrise Mall on the first two weekends in January. Trees can be dropped off behind Macy’s Women’s Store near Arcadia Drive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Jan. 2-3 and 9-10.

The Scout’s tree recycling is listed as a free community service on the Sunrise Mall event calendar, but donations are typically received in conjunction with the effort to help raise funds.
