An outdoor holiday event scheduled to take place at the Citrus Town Center this weekend has been cancelled due to the likelihood of rain, according to postings on the shopping center’s social media accounts Thursday morning.

The two-hour “Holiday Open House” event was set to feature free horse-drawn carriage rides, pictures with costume characters, carolers, face painting, and other activities at the Center’s shopping plaza on Greenback Lane.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience, but we wish everyone happy holidays!” the Town Center posted on its Facebook page Thursday, along with a note to “stay tuned for more exciting events coming in 2016.”

The “open house” event was one of many activities the Citrus Town Center sponsors throughout the year, as part of its goal to foster a “community feel” for the neighborhood shopping center. In 2012, the former “Sunrise Festival Shopping Center” finalized its nearly $4 million remodel, featuring new landscaping, store frontages, outdoor seating areas, and a prominently displayed new name at the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard.
