Metro Fire officials confirmed at least one person is dead Wednesday after an early morning fire engulfed a home on Sunrise Boulevard near Oak Avenue.
Fire crews responding to the scene just before 5 a.m. found a “well-involved” house fire on the 7200 block of Sunrise Boulevard, according to tweets from Metro Fire’s official Twitter account. By about 5:15 a.m., fire officials reported a partial collapse of the second floor of the home, with crews still working to knock down the fire.
At least five fire engines responded to the scene, with several units from Folsom Fire Department later arriving on scene to assist.
Citrus Heights police officers closed off a small portion of southbound Sunrise Boulevard, redirecting traffic at Oak Avenue. By 8 a.m., police said a single lane of southbound Sunrise Boulevard had been reopened. Northbound lanes were not affected by the closure.
Update: Metro Fire confirmed one elderly woman and two pets were found dead. Investigators also determined the fire began near the downstairs furnace. See SacBee article for additional details.
