Deputy Coroners remove the body of a man found dead in a Citrus Heights park, Wednesday.

Citrus Heights police said a man was found dead in Westwood Park near Lichen K-8 school Wednesday morning, with evidence indicating a possible overdose.

Detective Vince Young, who was on-scene investigating Wednesday, described the death as an “unconfirmed overdose” based on evidence found at the scene, but said an official determination would be released later by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

Although only able to provide limited information on the incident, the detective said the body was found inside the park fence behind a tennis court and confirmed that CPR had been attempted. He described the man as “middle-aged.”

Neighbors said police arrived to the park around 8 a.m., with coroner deputies seen removing a body bag on a stretcher around 10:30 a.m.

“This park is usually a really nice park,” said resident Lindsay Stanbery, who recently moved near the park where the body was found. “It’s a really good area — that’s why I was so shocked.” She added that loud noise and partying in the park after hours happens “all the time.”

The park is located off Butternut Drive, adjacent to a portion of Interstate 80.
