Called Citrus Heights’ “legitimate tent city,” the annual Community Camp Out plans to again take over Rusch Park with an activity-filled overnight event this July.
“It is one of the best family events that the City sponsors,” said Residents’ Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights President Tonya Wagner, whose organization helps put the event on each year.
If at all like the prior year, campers can again expect swimming, crafts, games, face-painting, balloons and entertainment — along with a dinner barbecue served by city council members. Last year’s event also featured a bonfire with s’mores, and star-gazing opportunities by the Sacramento Valley Astronomical Society members.
Breakfast will also be provided to campers on Sunday morning for a fee of $8 for adults and $6 for kids aged 2 to 17, according to an event flier.

The annual Camp Out began in 2001, with organizers saying last year’s event drew over 200 people to Rusch Park.
The 2015 event is scheduled for July 11 and 12, and is sponsored by the Sunrise Recreation and Park District, in collaboration with REACH and the City of Citrus Heights.
