Police blocked off Arcadia Drive temporarily Monday afternoon as a helicopter and fire crews fought a one-acre brush fire near the Sunrise Golf Course in Citrus Heights.
“It burned right up to the golf course and that’s where it was contained,” said Metro Fire Public Information Officer Michelle Eidem, confirming there were no structures damaged and no reports of injuries.
Eidem said at least 15 firefighters and multiple helicopter water drops were utilized to battle the brush blaze, with crews containing it by 3:05 p.m., after receiving a call just after 2:30 p.m.
Although located just several hundred feet from businesses like HD Supply, the undeveloped area where the fire was located contains brush, dry grass — and the occasional homeless camp.
Eidem said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but confirmed the wooded area is known to have had issues with homeless camps in the past.
