Planning to open with a dramatic skydiver demo this year, a City event organizer says entries are still being sought for the 16th annual Red, White & Blue Parade in Citrus Heights this June.

“We would like to have more diverse entries as we are a diverse city,” said Citrus Heights Event and Community Center Technician Michele Saario, calling the parade one of the best in the region. “New entries add a new dynamic to the event each year.”

The parade along Sunrise Boulevard is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on June 27, with entries open to civic clubs, businesses, nonprofits, band or dance teams, churches, schools, sports teams, car clubs and other groups. Saario said she shoots for about 100 entries each year, and is hoping to get some new musical entries and animal entries this year.

Traditionally held on the fourth Saturday in June each year, the parade dates back around Citrus Heights’ founding and was originally created as a “happy birthday” to the City, according to Saario. Several years later, in 2002, the event became known as the “Red, White & Blue” Parade, due in part to the September 11 terrorist attack.

Those interested in submitting an entry in this year’s parade are invited to pick up an application at the Citrus Heights Community Center, or can contact Michele Saario at 916-727-5400 or msaario@citrusheights.net.

The annual event is sponsored by the City of Citrus Heights, Republic Services, 101.9 The Wolf, and Hot 103.5, with the skydiving demo sponsored by Sunrise Marketplace.
