On February 21, Citrus Heights residents will have their first opportunity of 2015 to dispose of hazardous items like paint, cleaning supplies, vehicle batteries and fluorescent light bulbs, at a free Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event held in the city.

Sponsored by Republic Services and the City, the drop-off is open to any Citrus Heights resident, as long as proof of residency – like a recent bill or photo ID – is provided.

Although many hazardous items will be accepted, a flier for the event states that ammunition, explosives, pharmaceuticals, radioactive material, household batteries, “home-generated sharps,” and used oil won’t be accepted — although Republic Services has other free curbside programs to take used oil and household batteries.

Residents are encouraged to call Republic Services at (916) 725-9060 for more information, or to schedule an appointment –- although appointments are not required, according to an event flier.

Drop-off event info:
Date: Saturday, February 21, 2015
Time: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: 6196 Sunrise Mall Rd., Citrus Heights (In parking lot behind Macy’s)

A flier for the event can be viewed here.
