Sheriff Warns of Sacramento County Phone Scam

Warning of a “sophisticated phone scam” was sent out Thursday by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, alerting county residents of a scammer claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Warrant division, who threatens arrest for an alleged outstanding warrant – if payment is not made immediately.

Sacramento County Sheriff Logo“The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department does not handle warrant information or payment over the phone for any reason,” a press release by the Department reads. “Anyone who receives such a call is discouraged from sending money to the caller and to quickly disconnect the phone call.”

The Department says the scam has “continued to surface locally” and requests that anyone who has fallen victim to the scam contact the Sheriff’s Service Center for options on how to report the incident.
